We have an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal, 2nd type, Civil Division, presented in its original Royal Mint case of issue.
This insignia was instituted in 1917 by King George V for civilian and wartime service and gallantry, with the 2nd type awarded from 1936 onwards.
- Design: The 2nd type insignia features the busts of King George V and Queen Mary in the center, surrounded by the Order's motto, 'For God and the Empire', on a scarlet enamel circle. It is a gold-colored cross patonce (a cross with flared arms) surmounted by the King's Crown, typically made of silver gilt for the OBE class.
- Division: The ribbon is rose-pink with pearl-grey edges, distinguishing it as a civil award. A military award would have an additional central pearl-grey stripe.
- Case: The medal is housed in its original black presentation case, which typically has the class of the award stamped in gold on the lid and the Royal Mint logo inside, as seen in the image.
